Description: I. "Horror in our Time": There is a brief résumé of the course of Hitler's war. After the war, British MPs visit Buchenwald to see for themselves the concentration camp with its instruments of torture and pitiful remains of corpses. British troops open up Belsen, and release the surviving prisoners. SS Camp Commander Josef Kramer awaits trial. American troops release Russian prisoners from Jena. The citizens of Geilenkirchen are made to dig up the bodies of massacred prisoners from a mass grave and bury them properly. A camp near Leipzig bears evidence of a massacre of Russian, Polish French and Czech prisoners. During the last days of Belsen, the British try to help and comfort the wretched survivors. Finally, the camp itself is burnt to the ground.
II. "The Beasts of Belsen on Trial": A British military court sits at Lüneburg to try Josef Kramer, Irma Grese, Fritz Klein (the prison doctor). There are final shots of the layout of Auschwitz extermination camp.
