Summary: A tribute to the free Polish forces who, during the Second World War, crewed destroyers patrolling in and around British waters and acted as escorts to Allied convoys of merchant ships.
Description: A typical term of duty at sea is used to illustrate the conditions these men had to endure: the departure from port soon after returning from a patrol to escort a convoy of supply ships; an encounter with enemy aircraft and a U-boat; storms, rough sea and blizzards. But the Polish destroyers carried on, also bearing on their record operations in the Baltic, Narvik and the hunt for the Bismarck. Such dedication however was duly regarded when the Polish sailors were decorated with the Polish Military Cross by General Sikorski.
