Summary: Record with live sound but no commentary of the Small Change Trial when volunteer subjects from A Company, 1st Battalion Staffordshire Regiment engaged in a field exercise after imbibing the hallucinogen LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide) at Porton.
Description: Soldiers are briefed by doctor (tall, in civilian clothes) before trial and assured "that anything you will be asked to take will be perfectly safe -- substance has already been tested on over one hundred people -- wants to see how much this affects your functioning as a human". Soldiers in camouflage uniform, including sergeant, stand next to nursing sister who has glasses of water dosed with substance. Field exercise, periodically timed, shows soldiers, all marked by numbers, advancing over range (with Porton buildings visible in distance). Wild track sound of the exercise, matched to some of the visual sequences, covers snatches of battle cries and (not visible) scientist asking sergeant, "How do you feel?". Sergeant answers "most confused, very unpleasant". Camera focuses on other soldiers who appear incapacitated in varying degrees; wild track sound of very relaxed soldiers at end of exercise is virtually inaudible, but expressive.
