Other titles:AMATEUR FILM BY GEORGE GOTHARD [Alternative Title]
Summary: Amateur films shot by George Gothard, a master butcher, between 1938 and 1947 recording his family's life in Huddersfield, Yorkshire, during the Second World War.
Description:i) 'A Little Local Colour': A family outing to Castle Hill, on the outskirts of Huddersfield, includes stunning views of the local scenery.
ii) 'Greenhead Park': Another family outing, this time to Greenhead Park in Huddersfield. Even in wartime the park was well maintained, and there are plenty of colourful flowers on display. Scenes also include a game of bowls and a tennis match being played in the park.
iii) 'The View Before We Got Our Neighbours': Shots of the Yorkshire countryside before the expansion of Huddersfield.
iv) 'Bradley Gate Farm': The Gothard children and friends visit the local farm. Scenes include chickens strutting about, the resident goat being taken for a walk by the children, cows grazing in the field, pigs foraging in the woods, and geese running around. George Gothard junior recalls how milk from the cows used to be delivered to the local village and surrounding area by horse and cart. To his knowledge, the farmer had no form of mechanised transport at all, and was reliant upon the horse and cart.
