Summary: Promotional film featuring the first flight of the French Concorde prototype 001, on 2 March 1969.
Description: Film opens with scenes at Toulouse Blagnac airport on the morning of the first flight, (which was delayed due to poor weather conditions which later lifted). Press representatives from around the world are present to record the historic moment, and the film's commentary includes extracts from various radio reports on the day. Once the flight has been approved, the crew consisting of pilot Andre Turcat, co-pilot Jaques Guignard, and flight engineers Henri Perrier and Michel Retif, climb onboard Concorde 001 (F-WTSS) and begin their pre-flight checks. Once ready, the crew prepare for take off. 001 taxis into position and takes off. Air to air shots of 001 in flight. Spectators at Toulouse watch the crew at work onboard via television monitors. 001 lands back at Toulouse, accompanied by a Mirage chase plane. The brake chute is deployed and the aircraft taxis back to the dispersal area where a large crowd has gathered, including the families of the crew. After disembarking the crew attend the press conference. Concordes 01 (later G-AXDN) and 02 (later F-WTSA) are seen under construction at Filton and Toulouse respectively. Brief shot of BAC test pilot Brian Trubshaw, who has been familiarising himself with the aircraft using the Concorde simulator at Filton, prior to his planned first flight in the British prototype 002 later in the year.
