- Description: Men of XXXIV Corps on a German railway line through the Bois de Loges captured intact on 12th August along with a derailed goods train and a dump of shells, mainly 77mm calibre. German prisoners, some still carrying their Bergmann 08/15 machine guns, are led to the rear. In a gun pit near Roye-sur-Matz a battery of 145mm naval guns of the Corps Artillery opens fire. On the quiet River Marne three soldiers try out abandoned German rowing boats, which overturn. The Germans have left limbers and equipment at the water's edge. A damaged girder bridge over the river is being rebuilt and lorry traffic is getting across. Cavalry patrols move ahead down the roads followed by lorry-towed 155mm Schneider guns, while German prisoners are being marched the other way. Continuing the Advance to Victory. A 75mm battery of 15th Division (?) conducts a bombardment on the Quennevières plateau. Troops, probably of 55th Division, pass through Nampcel (on the boundary between Third and Tenth Armies) past German machine gun posts. Renault FT18 tanks also move up through the villages. German prisoners march back to the holding cages where each is given a piece of bread as their first meal. Three prisoners are posed together from the "class of 1920", those who would in peacetime have been called for military service in 1920, having reached the age of 18. They are therefore 17 years old or younger. In a formal ceremony President Poincaré awards General Pétain the Médaille Militaire at his headquarters. In another ceremony at Versailles Poincaré, with Clémenceau watching, presents Ferdinand Foch with his baton as a Marshal of France.
