Description: VE Day, 8 May 1945 (black and white). Newspaper headlines. Shots from rooftop looking down on London streets (Charing Cross Hospital, Trafalgar Square and Nelson's Column, the base of which is clad in "Victory Over Germany" banners). Pan around Trafalgar Square, filled with thousands of people. Scenes at street level of celebrations near Piccadilly Circus; large numbers of service personnel amongst the civilians. People climb lamp posts. Plaza Cinema (Haymarket) showing "A Place of One's Own" with Margaret Lockwood and James Mason in background. One scene shows a policeman telling a group of soldiers to get down off the roof of a van).
Victory Parade, 8 June 1946 (colour). Scenes of the Victory Parade are taken from the rooftop of St Martin in the Fields church, looking down on the official parade. Personnel of Allied nations and colonial forces march past, there is also a good view of the Royal Coach passing below. The camera pans across the crowds from above, showing the National Gallery draped in flags. After the parade, crowds spill out on to the road; one person is stretchered away. The Mall from street level lined with flags, looking towards Buckingham Palace and towards Admiralty Arch, still lined with flags but otherwise completely deserted (early morning?). Scenes outside the Fernleaf Club for New Zealand service personnel, Lowndes Square. Large numbers of personnel gather outside the building, and load their kit into the backs of lorries. Brief shots of personnel embarking on the gangway of a ship; possibly return voyage to New Zealand.
