Summary: An instructional and promotional film about the EKCO Weather Radar display equipment.
Description: The equipment and its capabilities are illustrated throughout the film, with 80% ca of the footage being devoted to how the cathode ray tube (CRT) displays the cloud formations, coastlines and other objects during flight. As the main purpose of the equipment is to help pilots distinguish between dangerous cumulus nimbus clouds and the harmless varieties, much of the flight, display footage and narration is devoted to that subject.
Group Captain John "Cat's Eyes" Cunningham and his co-pilot Peter Bungay fly a de Havilland Comet 4 jet aircraft fitted with the equipment.
CTR displays show variations to the details at 60 and 120 mile range and throughout the journey that starts in England, passes over the Italian coastline, across the Mediterranean Sea, over the central African lakes and lands at Entebbe airport before returning to England.
The test flight shows differing examples of clouds, their respective threats and how to find ways around them based on the data supplied through the display.
