Summary: This film shows some of the amenities provided for front-line troops spending a 12-hour rest period away from their units. Seen here are some of two hundred sappers of 3rd Division's 253 Field Company RE taking a day's break at a divisional rest-club in a requisitioned hotel (the Hotel Belle Plage) on the beach at Luc-sur Mer.
Description: The rest period commences at 10am when the men are first seen arriving; much of the morning is taken up with the exchange of old clothing for new issue and having showers as well as time to have a read, a smoke and a cup of tea. After lunch, the troops are allowed to go for walks and bathe in the sea and enjoy other diversions. A concert party is put on in the afternoon; ex-professional musicians play to an appreciative audience. At 8pm the day comes to an end and the sappers set off back to the war.
