Summary: A rescue operation to free two ambulance men trapped while sleeping in their ambulance when a German bomb hit a residential area near Tripoli harbour.
Description: The rescue party of New Zealanders, Royal Engineers, Royal Army Medical Corps and the RAF digging the cavity to free the trapped men. The New Zealanders and Italian firemen breaking up and clearing away some of the debris. The debris is taken away by lorries. Tea and cigarettes are passed through the cavity to the trapped men. Driver G Mackay (from Glasgow) of the Royal Army Service Corps and Private A Abbott (from Burton Latimer) of the Royal Army Medical Corps are freed and are greeted by their mates as they emerge from their tomb. A crowd stands on the debris under which the two men were buried, many of them Italian civilians.
