Now, 184 countries are members. Colour footage of the UN Headquarters building, the flags that stand outside it and the council chamber. Stills of the leaders who have spoken there. There are several organisations involved in the United Nations. UNHCR “cares for displaced persons and their needs” and UNICEF takes care of the children of the world and their needs. Shots of children receiving medical attention and the distribution of aid.
Shot of the council chamber. On March 1992, the United Nations set up a Special Mission to Yugoslavia, called UNPROFOR, to facilitate a peaceful solution of the deteriorating relations between countries that make up Yugoslavia. Shots of Special Representative to the Secretary General Yasushi Akashi, UNPROFOR soldiers at Sarajevo Airport and at other locations.
All sections have different tasks. UNPROFOR Civil Affairs provided the link between the UN and other international organisations. Shots of UN Civil Affairs officers in a meeting. UNMOs (UN Military Observers) are present to monitor the changing situation. CIVPOL is on the ground to reinforce order in areas that have already been hit by civil war. Children are especially protected by these UN agencies because of their vulnerability in times of war. Shots of children affected by war, a child drawing a heart and children playing outside.
