  • Description: The first stage of construction is to put down hessian matting and wire, over which the timber lengths are laid. Men run down the already completed section, carrying timber from a parked lorry to the working edge, where the baulks are hammered into position. An amphibious jeep carries sandbags, which are used to dress the edge of the road.
