She says that whenever she drinks water, she wondered if he is hungry or thirsty.
She begs him to ask somebody to get in contact with her. She says that she is living with Zdenko, her son, and his children at Kumrovec. She says “Drago, it is very hard for me”. She explains that she is now completely blind and she can only just still walk. She just wants to know that her son is still alive before she dies.
II. Mara Goroman, tells her story to a group of people sitting around a large table. She explains that she is the daughter of Ilija Zeko and she has been looking for him for four years. She explains that he was taken away from her at Priljev, Luka. She says that the children, women and disabled men were separated from able-bodied men and they were driven to Dalj. There, they were kept in prison-like conditions. They had to sleep on floorboards, without light and with little water for three months. She says that when they were released in Novi Sad, they were blinded by the lights and felt very disorientated.
From that point onwards, she spent time searching for her family. Eventually she found her mother, who looked “half-dead”. They travelled to Sarajevo but by then the war had spread to Bosnia and they had to leave there too. They arrived in Zagreb on April 26th 1992. Mara says that she has spent all of her time sending messages and talking to the Red Cross to try and find out the whereabouts of her father. So far, all her efforts have been in vain and with each unsuccessful meeting, she feels increasingly sick with grief.
