- Description: The Prince talks with French staff officers in a snowbound wood. Getting out of his car at another location he walks into a wood with his party. The group poses for the camera. The French troops have stretched gas capes over their foxholes, although one group lines a slit trench. The French and British operators share a single telephone line. At a crossroads in a nearby wood French and American transport wait to move up. Close to Villers Bretonneux on 8th May the German A7V tank 'Elfriede', victim of the first tank-to-tank engagement on 24th April, lies on its side with its track mechanism clearly visible. A German AEG GIV captured undamaged on a French airfield. The crew of four are posed, all grim faced, for the camera. Another group of German prisoners, soldiers captured at Grivesnes on 9th May, are resting. They are curious about the camera but otherwise relaxed. The President is accompanied by General Fayolle and General Humbert. His first appointment is to affix the Médaille Militaire onto the standard of 8th Tirailleur Regiment, in a formal ceremony with an inspection and band. 4th Zouave Regiment has its standard decorated with the ribbon of the Legion of Honour. Finally 1st Moroccan Regiment is given the Legion of Honour, and Poincaré decorates a number of its soldiers. The officers congratulate their men, then the whole force marches past. As a demonstration, an officer fits a message to a dog's collar and the dog's handler releases it. It runs past a (pyrotechnic) explosion and on to a second handler in a scrape trench. Another dog is sent in return. One of the handlers with his dog, which has a gasmask on as another demonstration. The handler removes the mask.
