Summary: Unedited film of Type VII C and Type XXI U-Boats in port.
Description: a) Ocean-going Type VII C U-Boat, fitted as a Flak submarine with two quadruple 20mm pieces, leaves its pen for the open sea and submerges, within sight of barrage balloons above its base port. Conning tower has a swordfish insignia and one aircraft kill dated 24-5-43. (U-Boat is probably U-441, commanded by Goetz von Hartmann, based at Brest and fitted as a Flak U-Boat in May 1943. U-441 shot down a plane between 22 and 26 May 1943 but was badly damaged and had to return to Brest). b) U-Boat crews transported to pens by bus (Brest?). c) Tug pulls a protective boom clear of the U-Boat pen. d) Commissioning of a Type XXI U-Boat, falsely numbered U-333. Crew assembled on deck are addressed by their captain and then by an admiral who comes aboard, possibly Generaladmiral Otto Schniewind. Date must be early 1945.
