Summary: UNTV follows a teenager as he crosses from one side of Mostar to the other to visit friends he has not seen since the war broke out.
Description: Miran used to live on the right side of Mostar but he was expelled and forced to move to the left bank. He says that going back to the other side will be like visiting a foreign country. Last year his friends could only shout to him across the river. He hopes that though he is a Muslim and his friends are Croats that this won’t stop them from having a common life. He wants to see one friend in particular that has been conscripted into the Croatian army and will be leaving soon. He says that crossing the bridge was “incredibly exciting”.
His friend waits for him in a park. He says that they were close as boys and that now “I feel like half a person in half a town”.
When they meet, they greet each other warmly and ask one another how they are. Later though Miran says that “we felt older” and it was hard to know if they would properly be friends again. He says that the visit felt “like a dream”.
