Summary: BULLETS IN BIHAĆ. Accusations of bias and even of arms dealing accompanied the arrival of the Bangladeshi peacekeepers in Bihać last October. UNTV investigates these charges.
Description: Footage of a Muslim call to prayer for soldiers in BANBAT. Four days after they were posted to Bihać last October, the Bosnians launched their first major offensive against the Serbs for three years. The Serbs accused the Bangladeshis of bias. Additionally, Fikret Abdić’s successionist forces in Velika Kladuša say that they have recovered Bosnian weaponary with Arabic lettering. Ramo Hirkić, from Velika Kladuša says that these bullets do not originate from the Yugoslavian area and could only have been introduced by UNPROFOR.
In response, Colonel Akhtar Salim, Commanding Officer of BANBAT, says that his soldiers believe in a book that uses the Arabic script but they cannot write or communicate in Arabic and none of their weapons or ammunition have been imported from Arabic countries. He says that the RSK (Republicka Srpska Krajina) carry out detailed checks of all BANBAT convoys.
The negative propaganda against BANBAT resulted in an attack on the 12th of December an APC that killed one soldier and wounded five others. Abdić’s side have apologised for this incident. All weapons and ammunition are available for inspection and are recorded to prevent any soldier selling on ammunition. The Commanding Officer points out that all BANBAT live rounds have BOF inscribed on them. V/O: There is no evidence that BANBAT have sold on ammunition. They are under suspicion solely because of the way that they choose to worship.
