Description: Archive footage of explosions on a hillside. Footage from a moving car of damaged shop fronts and deserted streets. This is Knin in the aftermath of the Croatian offensive that has resulted in thousands of Serbs fleeing their homes. Interview with Alun Roberts, UN spokesman for Sector South, who says that when the UN evacuated patients from the hospital, the drivers of the UNPROFOR APCs escorting them witnessed women and children, caught up in the shelling, lying dead in the streets. Roberts says UN officials saw only the main streets but whole of Knin was being hit during the shelling including civilian buildings.
UNTV reporter Roy Head says that currently there are more than 800 refugees staying at UN headquarters in Knin but many say that they want to leave. Interview with refugees. One woman wants her husband back and to lead a normal life somewhere without fear. Another woman says that she does not know where her two children are and she wants to find her family. She starts to cry.
Akashi met with local Croatian military authorities. At a press conference he says that, along with General Čermak, the maximum effort will be made to allow people to stay where they live. He says, though, that everyone has a right to leave but their departure should be properly recorded and organised. Knin stands largely intact but there has been looting and reports of human rights abuses. Interview with residents whose relatives were shot by Croatian soldiers. At the press conference Lieutenant General Ivan Čermak, Commander of Knin area, promises that there has been no looting and he has issued orders that all Croatian military personnel, apart from military police, leave Knin.
