Summary:
Description: Universal carriers are disgorged at low tide from RN LSTs onto 'Mike' Beach at Courseulles-sur-Mer; a Scammell wrecker lorry and bulldozers equipped for shallow water recovery work stand by. Blockships belonging to 'Gooseberry 4' can be seen in the background. An MP directs the flow of lorries belonging to 214th Brigade's RASC company and a 2nd Army REME unit from LST 65. Personnel and a recovery bulldozer from No 7 Beach Group stand by in case any vehicles get bogged down; a Sherman BARV can be seen near another LST in the background. Vehicles from the RASC and REME units on the top deck of LST 65 are driven in turn onto a lift which lowers them onto the run-off deck from which they are driven off the vessel. A barrage balloon flies over self- propelled barges and LCTs stranded by the low tide; as one LST draws away from the beach, another arrives with reinforcements. Lorries, ambulances and trucks belonging to various units (notably a 21st Army RASC GT company and a 79th Armoured Division (?) RAMC unit) head for a beach exit. A Bedford QL 3-tonner disembarks from a US Navy LST.
