Summary: An example of the six-pounder gun, the standard anti-tank weapon in the support companies of 1944-pattern rifle battalions, is shown deployed in a defensive rôle in the Norman 'bocage'.
Description: A five-man detachment from the 10th (?) Battalion Durham Light Infantry's anti-tank platoon is seen closed-up for action around their branch-camouflaged six-pounder gun on 70th Brigade's sector of 49th Division's front between Rauray and Brettevillette. Three tired looking anti-tank gunners are seen having a snack, smoking cigarettes etc, in their slit-trench during a lull in the fighting. The gun detachment commander scouts the surrounding countryside with his binoculars, the gun- layer traverses the six-pounder gun onto a new target bearing while the loader places an APDS projectile 'up the spout', slamming the breech shut with a flourish.
