Summary: English-language adaptation of a French wartime newsreel, dealing with the situation at the beginning of the war.
Description: The film shows that while to us France means crossing the Channel, to the Germans it only means crossing a bridge. French troops guard (border?) areas. What happened the last time. The nature of the countryside in these areas (it is rich farming land); troops are seen working the land and gathering grapes for wine. The idea that since the war started the women have taken charge of France, that they have a long tradition of endurance and independence; the life of France goes on even now the men face war. The last few shots are of the Germans attacking the small town in which these people lived.
