Summary: The rapid advance made by 21st Army Group through northern France from the Normandy beach-head forces the Germans to evacuate airfields which the Luftwaffe had once been able to use in the air war against Britain such as the one seen here at St Pol.
Description:Bombs which have been abandoned by their Luftwaffe users are found lying in specially-constructed shelters; light bombs of French manufacture are also seen still in their wooden packing cases. A tour around the airfield takes in a perimeter road lined with ammunition shelters with a French/German sign nearby warning people to halt when aircraft are taking off or landing from the runway. An office and stores Nissen hut, originally built by the British in 1940, appears to be the only building above ground still intact. All that is left of the airfield's complement of Flak artillery are several wooden dummy gun positions.
