Summary: Navy Instructional film explaining the Naval Control of Shipping organisation and its importance in ensuring the safe passage of merchant ships during wartime. The organisational structure, geographical areas of responsibility in the Atlantic Ocean and liaison with merchant ship captains are discussed, including comments from the then Supreme Allied Commander Atlantic (SACLANT) Admiral Lee Baggett USN. Several shots of convoys sailing during the First and Second World Wars also feature, including scenes of merchant ships under attack from U-Boats, warships attacking submarines and aircraft, and battle damage suffered by ships. Admiral Sir William O'Brien, then retired, had served in the Royal Navy during World War Two and also comments on the importance of convoys from the deck of HMS Belfast (C.35).
