Summary: Amateur film shot by former Far Eastern Prisoner of War ex-Staff Sergeant Stan Holyland of the Royal Army Ordnance Corps (RAOC) records his memorial visit, with fellow members of the FEPOW Leicestershire Association and their wives, to sites linked to the Burma-Siam Railway, from outside Changi Prison (Singapore) to many stations along the Japanese railway line.
Description: Sites visited in Singapore include Kranji War Cemetery, Alexandra Hospital (massacre on 14 February 1942) and Sentosa Island, and in Thailand (Siam): Ban Pong, Nong Pladuk Junction, River Kwai Bridge at Kanchanaburi, Wang Pho, Nam Tok, Ban Kao, Wang Ta Khon, Wang Lan, Kanchanaburi railway station and the Chung Kai War Cemetery, where a wreath is laid during a memorial service. At Kanchanaburi station a memorial sign from the Japanese Association in Thailand reads: "This monument was erected by the Japanese Army during WWII in memory of the Allied forces and nationals of the many countries who had helped in the construction of the Thailand-Burma Railway and had died through illness during the course of the construction." Tour concludes with demonstrations of Thai dancing, kick-boxing and cockfight before visit to Bangkok and flight back to UK.
