Summary: The Radar FA No 15 (Cymbeline) mortar locating radar, for close-combat support in the field; scenes include mortar attacks, artillery, and sequences filmed in Canada and Australia
Description: Filmed in a glossy, advertisement style, the film shows the advantages to armies of using the Cymbeline radar in close combat situations. The radar is shown operating in a snow covered area of Canada, as well as in the jungle and desert of Australia. The radar is light enough to be manually prepared and moved, and soldiers are seen loading it into a pre-dug trench. An animated plan diagram illustrates the two point location method, previously used by the Green Archer radar, and now employed by the Cymbeline. The source position of the enemy mortar is located, and retaliation can occur within seconds. The CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) display is shown. The radar is able to be repaired and serviced in the field from spares which are carried in a separate van. The radar was developed by EMI Electronics Ltd, and tested by the Ministry of Defence under extreme climactic conditions. Cymbeline can also be used for plotting shell trajectory and source location.
