Summary: The impact of a highly mechanised army on a rural, agricultural region with few major roads such as the Calvados region of Normandy can be gauged from this footage showing military traffic travelling through the village of Creully.
Description: Soft-skinned transport belonging to British and Canadian units in the 21st Army moves to and fro through the village (which is situated on the Seulles river approximately four miles inland from 'Juno' and 'Gold' beaches). Among the vehicles seen are a Maudslay Militant 6-ton lorry, an Austin K2 ambulance, a Bedford MW 15-cwt truck and Bedford OY and QLB 3-ton lorries, a Ford heavy utility staff car, a Fordson WOT6 three-tonner, a CMP 30-cwt truck and a CMP 3-ton lorry, Albion 10-ton lorries and a Mack 5-ton lorry, interspersed with numerous jeeps, motorcycle despatch riders and the odd civilian horse-drawn carts and cyclists. A detachment of infantrymen from a Canadian Scottish regiment marches through Creully; signs pointing to 2nd Army HQ and urging traffic to keep moving, line their route.
