Film Number:A70 120-3
Other titles:
Summary: More of Caumont's old inhabitants return to their battle- scarred town, sometimes to find their homes in ruins.
Description: British and US military traffic rumbles through the town in the shadow of the shell-holed church spire which belongs to Caumont's largest church. A French Tricolour returns to commemorate the menfolk of Caumont L'Evente killed during the First World War. Members of one particular family return to their home with the furniture and household items they were able to take with them when the war came to their town. A British army major responsible for recruiting civilian labour in the Caumont district speaks to several of his youthful volunteers. More families return, some to sift through the piles of debris and rubble which were once their homes for any remaining possessions buried in the ruins, while the more fortunate have only to clear up shattered glass and plaster dust and clean the household crockery. British army engineers are seen helping in the clearing-up operations.
