Film Number:DRN 2464B
Other titles:
Summary: Navy Instructional film set onboard the Leander Class frigate HMS Bacchante (F.69). A Leading Hand (equivalent to an Army Corporal) describes the basic causes of corrosion and points out examples. Methods of prevention, including paint, grease and plastic coating are discussed. Painting is described in some detail, including surface preparation, priming and technique; again, there are examples of how not to do it. The film ends with a montage of various Royal Navy vessels, intended to underline the point that ship husbandry is important for operational effectiveness, including the Daring Class destroyer HMS Decoy (D.106) firing her guns, F4 Phantom aircraft launching from the Audacious Class aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal (R.09) and the Royal Navy's first nuclear-powered submarine HMS Dreadnought (S.101) on the surface.
