Summary: Third in a series of four Army films giving an account of the battle for the Falkland Islands from the personal viewpoints of people involved, including an officer of the Royal Marines in addition to Army personnel.
Description: Captain W A H Townend, a staff officer at 5 Brigade Headquarters, describes the arrival of 5 Brigade on the islands, and the advance of 2nd Battalion the Parachute Regiment (2 Para), 1st Battalion the Welsh Guards, 2nd Battalion the Scots Guards and 1/7 Duke of Edinburgh's Own Gurkha Rifles on Bluff Cove and Fitzroy. Lieutenant W J S Syms of 1st Welsh Guards then takes up the story, describing the move by sea of 1st Welsh Guards and 2nd Scots Guards to Bluff Cove, and the subsequent air attack on the Landing Ships Logistic (LSL) RFA Sir Galahad (L.3005) and RFA Sir Tristram (L.3505) with heavy losses to the embarked Army units. Lieutenant-Colonel Rickett explains the overall plan for the final approach and assault on Port Stanley, and Captain I Gardiner, commander of X-Ray Company 45 Commando Royal Marines describes the assault by 45 Commando on Two Sisters, including the phases of the attack, tactics, weapons and opposition, and the final defeat of the Argentinean defenders. Lieutenant J Stuart of 2nd Scots Guards fought in the battle for Mount Tumbledown and gives his account of that action. Lieutenant-Colonel Rickett gives an overview of the final phase of the battle, the fall of Port Stanley and a list of casualties in men, aircraft and ships. The film then moves on to accounts of the contribution of supporting arms and services; the contributions of the Intelligence Corps, Special Forces and Artillery, including naval gunfire support, are briefly recapped by various contributors, and Major M Osborne of 3rd Battalion the Parachute Regiment discusses the relearning of old lessons by the infantry, the advantages and disadvantages of various weapons and the failures of peacetime training.
