Summary:
Description: I. "Forward in Normandy." Inhabitants of Rouen discover the advantages of British occupation, including food and liberty. Homeless shelter in cathedral, while "resisters" proudly wear their "uniforms," Croix-de-Lorraine markings being prominent. British soldiers receive a bottle each of real British beer. On the American front, a Russian soldier fighting with the Germans brings his compatriots forward to surrender, the small group of men bringing their rifle bolts with them. In Cherbourg, girls who "showed a partiality for the Germans" have their hair shaved off; bald females walk away afterwards. Back in the British sector where Montgomery reads the lesson of the Good Samaritan at a church parade and accepts a bouquet from three little girls, British armour "pours through" the Orne bridgehead. Tanks move across open plains, filmed from the air and ground.
II. "Omens of German Disillusion." These include the "Generals' attempt to blow up Hitler" and a comparison of Russian and German newsreel coverage of events on the Eastern Front. "Credulous character of Germans" who are "still in dream world of 1940" see film of "withdrawal" from Crimea, not long lines of POWs in Russian hands. "Germans must be defeated in war to learn their lesson."
