- Description: I. A recently recaptured area. A school class is held in the open air. An officer of 102nd Infantry Regiment gives small gifts to the children. The gifts include small French flags. The children's faces are shown in close-up. They race out of the schoolyard. II. Nesle, behind the lines, Somme area. A British officer hands out chocolate to children in the main square, one of the children is held by a French officer, and the two men talk together. In the square a pierrot show is about to start, the actors are preparing and the audience, of civilians and British and French soldiers, is waiting. The show, on a raised stage at one end of the square, starts with a lady singer, followed by a paper-tearing act. III. More recently recaptured areas. M Viviani, the "Garde de Sceaux" (Privy Seal) and M Leon Bourgeois, the Minister of Labour, on a tour of enquiry deliver speeches to a gathering in the square of one town. At Noyon they meet the Mayor, M Noel, and again give speeches to the people. They pay homage to the war dead at a temporary cemetery. At Guiscard they are met by the town leaders, and at Ham they again address the locals from the main square. IV. General Pétain at a formal parade pins the Croix de Guerre to the standard of 410th Infantry Regiment. As the ceremony finishes a small girl, accompanied by her mother, offers Pétain a bouquet of flowers. He kisses both of them. Later in the ceremony he also decorates the standard of I Cavalry Corps (note that this included Infantry and cyclist units). After this ceremony General Féraud decorates the fanions of cyclist units of 1st Cavalry Division. The troops of the division, including an Infantry regiment, march past. A close-up of the fanion-bearer. The division then marches back to camp and Pétain congratulates the various officers.
