Description: II. French newsreel item on German prisoners of war at Saint-Dizier, France, September 1917.
Some of the prisoners work in a wood cutting timber and piling up sticks. Others dig up stones for roadfill. The prisoners march back to their camp under escort. At the camp they work building a new barracks. One prisoner undergoes the routine camp medical examination. Other prisoners rest outdoors. One has his hair cut, others wash themselves or their clothes in a river. At mealtime they queue for soup, then rest and play cards.
The Prince decorates two men of a division in Alsace, following which the division marches past. Near the River Aisne he salutes the tattered standard of a battalion of Chasseurs and goes on to decorate one soldier. He then performs a similar ceremony at Noyon, decorating a soldier before watching a marchpast.
