- Description: Lorries full of French troops drive through the village of Montebello. French soldiers on the march in two parallel columns come out past the main church. Italian and French troops share a trench on the Piave River line. The river is visible on the horizon through the defensive wire. The garrison headquarters of the battalion is shown. The men parade their standard through the local town and back to the barracks. General Pétain (poor shot) pins the Médaille Militaire onto the standard. Snow is falling, sometimes heavily, throughout. War dogs of various breeds are led off by their trainers from their kennels into the training area, and race forward past smoke grenade explosions in search of wounded men. Close-ups of two of the dogs, a Saint Bernard and a beagle.
