Summary: Collection of newsreel material, 1918.
Description: I. (Reel 1) Anglo-American boxing tournament organised by the Grand Fleet. Panning medium shot across crowds of ratings assembled on quayside around raised boxing ring - two men are fighting. US flags are prominently displayed. Crowded accommodation vessel (HMS Sutlej ?) alongside in the background. Jump cuts between bouts - two men are knocked-out. Beatty stands in the ring after awarding the prizes - Admiral Madden leads the crowd in three cheers.
II. RAF carnival at Shepperton on Thames in aid of military hospitals. Pan over crowd at river's edge - some sit in moored punts, the ladies wearing wide sun hats and holding parasols. Two coxed fours go by in a race. Two teams in punts stage a tug of war - after the contest, one team leaps into the water to cool off.
III. Facial close-up of the retiring US Ambassador, Mr Walter Hines Page, October 1918.
IV. Mr Samuel Gompers and delegation (see Notes) arrive at Liverpool, August 1918. Medium shot of Gompers and party onboard liner with unidentified British Army captain - in one shot the party wear lifejackets. Medium close-up of Gompers.
V. US nurses on a Thames pleasure boat. Medium shot of nurses' boat leaving a lock - second vessel in the background is crowded with soldiers, who wave to the camera. Medium close-up of Mr S Joel, who entertained the party at Maidenhead. Medium shot of Joel greeting the nurses as they come ashore.
