- Description: Machado with President Poincaré at Verdun inspects the troops, and presents the Mayor of Verdun with the Order of the Tower and the Sword. The two presidents enter through the defences of the city and tour round them by car. They go on to the Aisne area, surveying the view from the Quennevières Farm plateau using maps, and walking through the ruins of Chauny. They go up into the observation tower previously used by Prince Eitel Friedrich. They then go on to the ruins of Ham Château, and finally the ruins of Nesle. There are still a lot of children in the villages. The two presidents watch a marchpast by the local troops. "The right bank of the Meuse", probably the area of the counter-attacks at Verdun, showing a line of soldiers marching along a road and up into some ruins near the battlefield. In the sector, obviously now quiet, "the scene of previous engagements", troops are resting and eating. A group of soldiers stands in brief silent salute over a corpse prior to placing it on a stretcher and carrying it away. The chaplain conducting the ceremony pronounces a benediction as he himself leaves. Colonel Karafatovitch of the Serbian Army pins the Cross of Kakageorge onto the standard of 2nd Battalion, 2nd Zouave Regiment in an open air ceremony. General Sarrail watches with the colonel as the Zouaves then march past in salute.
