Summary: I. French newsreel item on the presentation of its standards to the Independent Army of Czechoslovakia by President Poincaré, France, July 1918.
II. French newsreel item on two celebrations of American Independence Day in France, 4th July 1918.
III. French newsreel item on the Allied bombardment at Vaux, Western Front, 2nd June 1918.
Description: The standards, donated by the people of Paris, are presented in a formal ceremony, in the open and in very windy conditions. After the presentation and marchpast one of the standards is displayed for the camera. Poincaré is barely seen.
The first of the celebrations has been organised by the American troops for the local French people of a quite small village by a river near the front. The American band plays, there are apple-bobbing and games of water-jousting. Local women and children watch. On the river there is punting, slippery pole climbing and swimming. The second ceremony is in Alsace, at Massevaux, and has been organised by the Americans for the locals in a formal manner. A senior US officer shares a platform in the main square with the mayor. The American and French troops, filmed by cameramen of the US Signal Corps, march on parade out of the square.
The barrage is being fired prior to an attack by French and US troops, but no soldiers are visible. The camera shakes with the shelling which continues for some time with a lot of smoke.
