Summary:
Description: I. "Liberation Channel Islands." Royal Naval ships approach St Peter Port on Guernsey where a British guard relieves his German counterpart on duty at the Castle, the operation being performed with due military punctilio. Vice-Admiral Hüffmeier prepares to leave the island while his soldiers lay down their arms in a stock-pile. Brigadier Snow reads the Royal proclamation restoring liberty to the island (no sound), the Union Jack is hoisted and Islanders cheer their liberators.
II. "Oslo." Aerial view of Oslo precedes coverage of the arrival of a British Air Commodore who curtly dismisses the outstretched hand of the German Colonel latterly commanding the area. Jubilant scenes in the streets of the Norwegian capital.
III. "Copenhagen." Danes enthusiastically greet their British liberators, bearing some of the soldiers shoulder-high through the streets of Copenhagen. Equal enthusiasm greets King Christian, driving in a carriage on his way to open Parliament. HMS Birmingham enters the harbour where the cruisers Prinz Eugen and Nürnberg are at anchor, still flying the Nazi ensign and "guarded" by a token force of two German soldiers on the quayside. Montgomery arrives to inspect the companies of the RN ships before driving in triumph through city. Remnants of German garrison, including women, march off.
