Summary: French newsreel of the aftermath of the Battle of Saint Mihiel, Western Front, September 1918.
Description: The town centre of Vigneulles, showing damage but cleared up, probably 13th September. Pan over Viéville-sous-les-Côtes, which is close to Hattonchâtel. German 105mm and 155mm howitzers taken at Viéville-sous-les-Côtes and Billy-sous-les-Côtes on display. Some pianos crated up by the Germans to be sent back to Germany. Saint Maurice (Sous-les-Côtes ?) shows slight damage. The locals have gathered in the concert hall prior to evacuation. The rubble and remains of houses at Combres and Les Eparges just to the north. A prisoner-of-war compound with Austro-Hungarian Engineers (attached to German divisions) inside and US guards outside. US soldiers, probably 90th (Alamo) Division, marching up the road from Pont-à-Mousson to Thiaucourt, not far from Regnieville. Other troops and transport move up to the old French lines. US Renault FT18 tanks move up also. In the ruins of Regnieville troops of US 5th (Red Diamond) Division fill in trenches and dig their own positions on the old German lines. Other US soldiers march up the roads nearby. The film ends with the French inspirational poster "On Ne Passe Pas".
