- Description: The town is shown from a distance, then in close-up. The suburbs are burnt out and deserted. The main square is relatively undamaged. The collegiate church and the Church of Saint Martin show considerable damage. An observation kite balloon is raised into the air near the battle zone. A wrecked tank is shown, a British-built Mark IV Female with black cross markings used by the Germans. Near Tahure Fourth Army transport moves supplies to the front. French troops use a German Maxim machine gun for anti-aircraft fire against the Germans. A German horse-drawn convoy with all the horses dead, killed by French bombardment. German prisoners are used as stretcher-bearers and begin their march to the rear. The advance continues beyond Sommepy, on the boundary between XI Corps and XXI Corps, with White armoured cars leading up the reinforcements. Men of US 2nd Division pass through Souain. Cavalry of XI Corps move up the road as mule teams of US 2nd Division come back. German prisoners are moved out from the village, passing the US soldiers. Shell-bursts around an observation kite balloon. "The enemy's artillery cannot resist the wonderful impetus of the French infantry." Distant shot of Renault FT18 light tanks and soldiers advancing through a barrage.
