Description: The film begins by showing the Yugoslav army training and then goes into its immediate post-war history with Marshal Tito as leader and the country a close friend of Russia. In the post-war reconstruction Tito wanted to keep Yugoslavian wealth inside the country, rather than allow much of it to go to Russia and so he incurred Russian wrath. But with trade barriers closed over Yugoslavia's land frontier and a bad drought in 1950, the Americans came in to aid Yugoslavia. They sent food supplies through Greece and into the Adriatic and their observers ensured it was fairly distributed. Industrial aid soon followed and very slowly the standard of living improved. Yugoslavia now stands, the film says, "an independent people between Eastern totalitarianism and Western democracy".
