Summary: I. French newsreel item on the liberation of Lille, Western Front, 18th-19th October 1918.
II. French newsreel item of General Debeney in portrait shot wearing his newly-awarded medal of a Grand Officer of the Legion of Honour, France, October 1918.
III. French newsreel item on the state entry of the King and Queen of Belgium into Bruges on 25th October 1918.
Description: The main square of the city, soon after its liberation showing civilians milling about but no real celebrations. Some British troops, probably 57th (West Lancashire) Division, are present, eventually driving off in lorries. People read the notices stating that French police and British military police have replaced the German authorities, and they are shown on duty together. The locals display in their windows valuables they kept hidden from the Germans. Sacks of flour arrive at the baker's, and he displays a German 'war loaf' of black bread. Potatoes are on sale for the first time since 1914. The Tournais gate to the city is damaged, as is the nearby Saint Maurice quarter. The Germans have blown up bridges and wrecked the railway station in retreat. In the Place de la Concorde in Paris people gather in celebration around the statue representing Lille.
The film is entirely in long shot from a high position. The royal party is barely discernible. Belgian Infantry and Cavalry march past, with many cameramen and photographers in evidence. The crowds gather near the town hall as the royal procession moves away.
