  • Description: I. "Vive Paris." Report centres on the triumphal entry into Paris of French forces under General Leclerc and the acclamation accorded De Gaulle. Opening shots show Free French in US uniforms fighting on the outskirts while in the centre of the city barricades are hastily erected; capture of some Germans suggests end of fighting. Leclerc now enters the city with his tank force, followed afterwards by the leading elements of the British force who receive a warm welcome (cheers and kisses) from the civilian population. Fine aerial views of liberated Paris (tricolour flies on Arc de Triomphe) introduce the remaining part of this report which equates De Gaulle with liberated France. Film shows General in various scenes and processions: with cigarette dangling from his mouth in the company of German Generals, driving with Leclerc to the Arc de Triomphe where he salutes and lays a wreath on the tomb of the Unknown Soldier, walking down the Champs Elysées, driving to the Hotel de Ville and Notre Dame - interrupted by snipers who force crowds to take cover as tanks return machine-gun fire, continuation of rejoicing.
