Summary: 153rd (Highland) Brigade sends in one of its battalions to deal with Lisieux's 12th SS Panzer Division defenders in position on its eastern outskirts.
Description: In the early afternoon of August 22nd, infantrymen belonging to one of the 5/7th Gordon Highlanders' rifle companies de-buss from their Bedford QLT lorries lent to the battalion by a 21st Army RASC transport company and form up on the western outskirts of Lisieux. Some German vehicles - notably a Kübelwagen and amphibious 'Schwimmwagen' abandoned by their Waffen-SS users - can be seen in the background. The company's officers hold an 'O' group before their men file along the N13 into the town and cross the Touques river. Heaps of rubble and gutted buildings - the result of heavy RAF bombing - line the infantry's progress towards the battalion's front.
