- Description: I. "VISCOUNTESS WAVELL'S INSPIRATION TO THE WOMEN OF INDIA" Women's Voluntary Services of India and Central Committee of India meet Lady Wavell at Viceroy's House for conference. Also attending are Mrs Godfrey, Honorary Secretary for All-India, and wives of Governors of the nine provinces who came to "put her and the rest if the Committee in touch with what was going on in the whole country". Scenes of Lady Wavell chairing conference in conference hall and being presented with WVS brooch by Lady Colville, as a symbol of "women at work for war". Lady Wavell meets Deputy Commissioner Sir Sobha Singh at opening of welfare centre in Mehrauli village, to see "the real India". Sweets distributed to soldiers' families. II. "TRANSPORT LAUNCHED - BENGAL WILL RECEIVE ALL FOOD GRAINS NEEDED". A garlanded Governor of Bengal Richard Gardiner Casey views construction of new boats in Bengal to tackle food shortages. Scenes of Indian workers sawing wood and hammering nails into sides of boats. Mr Casey is presented with a model ship. Commentary states that boat construction is part of a food plan "which favours no one province, but takes India as a whole...the only proper way of thinking about a nation". III. "OFFICER CADET KATRE WINS BHOPAL GOLD SWORD OF HONOUR" Katre receives Bhopal Sword of Honour from Air Commodore the Nawab of Bhopal at Initial Training Centre. Officer Kisana receives prize for studies in ground subjects. Nawab of Bhopal offers cadets a new translation of Per Ardua ad Astra, meaning, he said, "there must always be an ideal beyond you". IV. "VICEROY IN BOMBAY - INSPECTS DUFFERIN CADETS AND RECONSTRUCTION OF DOCKS" Lord and Lady Wavell board vessel Dufferin and inspect sea cadets in training for Indian merchant marine "who will one day turn...the coasts of India into the profit that it should mean to us all". Wavell views reconstruction of docking facilities at Bombay by engineers following previous fires. V. "THE CAPTURE OF KENNEDY PEAK" Officers and Unit Commander plan assault on "Jap stronghold" at Kennedy Peak following fall of Tiddim. Scenes of shells being fired, exploding and tanks advancing through trees. An abandoned Japanese flag is discovered by Indian troops. A Bailey bridge is constructed to bridge gap and a bulldozer prepares temporary airstrip aided by "friendly Chins". A flying jeep lands to fly out wounded who are being assembled in dressing room. A Civil Administrative Officer "starts work on reconstructing towns and villages...that have been freed from a ruthless enemy".
