Summary:Second World War British Ministry of Information newsreel trailer encouraging the public to lag the water pipes and water tanks in their homes.
Description:The film opens with static shots of a block of ice, a piece of coal and domestic water pipes with the commentary asking what these three things have in common. (Shot of a cinema audience). Brief shots of a water pouring from a burst water pipe to a bath, ice on the frozen tap of a kitchen sink, hot water pipe which is obviously too hot to touch and coal being poured from coal scuttle in to a coal fired boiler. The commentary explains that lagging the cold water pipes prevents burst pipes and laggingof the hot water tank keeps the water hot and saves fuel, (shot of hands lagging a pipe, stop-motion film of lagging winding around a hot water tank and a reverse shot of coal moving back in to a coal scuttle). The commentary continues "Manpower is precious" followed by a shot of a newspaper headline stating that thousands of skilled men may be called up; "there are not enough miners" (brief shot of a miner at work) and "there aren't enough plumbers" (shot of a door sign John Smith Plumber 'away for the duration' ). The film ends with another shot of a cinema audience and the commentary answering the opening question "it is lagging - that is what ice, coal and pipes have in common" followed by a sign LAG YOUR PIPES NOW.
