Title:MINE CLEARANCE IN MEIJEL (PART 2) [Allocated Title]
Film Number:A70 194-7
Other titles:
Summary: Sappers serving with 279th Field Company RE dispose of mines unearthed at Meijel by another 15th (Scottish) Division sapper unit.
Description: Ten Tellermines are placed in a shell crater in an open field outside the village; wires leading to the 'plunger' are attached to a gun-cotton primer which will be placed among the mines to detonate them. A short but sharp explosion signals their destruction. From the shelter of a drainage ditch, the engineer in charge of the detonator presses down on the 'plunger' (for the benefit of the cameraman?). Filming near a derelict Sherman Crab flail minesweeping tank (named "Coup de Grace" by its former Westminster Dragoons owners), the cameraman observes the destruction of more Tellermines in two batches of twenty and one of eighteen; a jagged spout of black smoke leaps skyward with each of the three explosions.
