Summary:Second World War British Ministry of Information newsreel trailer stressing the need to salvage rubber for the war effort.
Description:The film opens with a staged shot of a British soldier in full kit swimming in water, followed by a short staged shot proporting to be of a Japanese machine gunner firing at the soldier. The film cuts to the interior of a British home and a framed picture of the soldier. In the living room the soldier's Mother is knitting, his Father sits in an arm chair listening to the radio and his younger brother is working at the dinning room table. The radio reports "fierce oppostion to the strongly intrenched Japanese and reinforcements are still going ashore. Fighting continues..." The film commentary states "Japanese now control 90% of the world's natural rubber supplies - so it is up to everyone of us to save every scrap of rubber we can get our hands on". Brief shot of a Japanese soldier standing behind a tree. The commentary continues "all over the British Isles there are families like this one with a son fighting in the Far East". The trailer then encourages the salvage of rubber, the young brother donates the tyre he was playing with on the street, the Mother and young brother fill a sack with old sponges, hot water bottles, boots, gloves and a catapault so that they "can be used again". The film returns to the swimming soldier with the commentary "a rubber lifejacket is keeping his head above water. His life may well depend on the rubber you save". End title GIVE IT TO YOUR SALVAGE COLLECTOR.
