Title:M10 ACHILLES 17-POUNDER SELF-PROPELLED GUNS IN ACTION IN SOUTHERN HOLLAND [Allocated Title]
Film Number:A70 176-1
Other titles:
Summary: Mobile detachments from the 75th Anti-tank Regiment RA go into action east of the Deurne - St Anthonis road on 11th Armoured Division's front.
Description: Two M10 Achilles self-propelled guns belonging to the Regiment's 119th Battery are seen 'hull-down' behind a slightly-raised 'bund' road carrying out an indirect shoot on German field fortifications two thousand yards away (on the east bank of the Deurne Canal (not seen in this footage); note the fierce blast each time a 70-pounder round is fired. Both SPG commanders are seen observing their guns' full of shot, one from his relatively exposed position on his vehicle's engine decking and the other (apparently not fearing immediate retaliation) standing on the ground next to his SPG. The crews of the two SPGs are seen in action around their 17-pounder guns. One of the M10s takes up a new firing position among some haystacks; its commander scans the surrounding farmland through his binoculars while the 17-pounder gun is traversed onto a new target bearing.
