Summary:
Description: Beyond Auneuil, the 1st Coldstream Guards' tanks climb onto a ridge overlooking Beauvais and later roll into the outskirts of the town. At its centre, local Resistance members and 'Les Pompiers' parade before Beauvais' 1914-18 War Memorial. In the evening, 2nd Grenadier Guards Shermans pass the Australian memorial and cemetery at Fouilloy in the Somme Valley. A Grenadier group half-track and a scout car are silhouetted by the sunset at Corbie. Armour and troop-carrying transport climbs out of the Somme valley. The 1st Coldstream Guards overtake a destroyed German road convoy between Corbie and Albert and stream across country towards Arras. On entering the town, the Coldstream group encounters surrendering Wehrmacht soldiers and burning and abandoned transport. With the 1st Coldstream's armour in support, the 5th Coldstream Guards advance cautiously through Arras to the railway station. Nearby they meet an RAF sergeant in civilian clothes who had been sheltered by the Maquis for three months. In the square around the Great War memorial part-bordered by derelict buildings and bomb-sites, Coldstream Guardsmen rest before moving off.
