Summary: Army Instructional film in which a small unit of the Ulster Defence Regiment (UDR) is briefed, carry out weapons safety procedures and depart on a patrol of a rural area of Northern Ireland. Weapons, communications, vehicles and patrol formations are all shown and described. The film shows how best to move through the countryside while remaining alert for any sign of booby traps or attack, how to cross obstacles such as ditches or streams and how to check a derelict house for signs of suspicious activity. The patrol then takes up position by the side of the road, observing traffic, identifying suspect vehicles and stopping them for further investigation. The patrol then returns to base, safes its weapons and reports to the duty officer. Finally the formations used when patrolling towns at night are described briefly.
